"Fuels of the Future" Congress and nature.tec Exhibition Focus on the Move to Alternative Energy
Biofuels for road and air transport are in focus at the events during the International Green Week
This is Year One of the new era in the energy policy in Germany. To make the associated change towards a sustainable supply of energy a success, the generation of energy from biomass is gaining ever more importance. On this background, the „nature.tec“ exhibition at the International Green Week Berlin 2012 (20-29 January) will highlight the use of biomass for energy production. Under the central motto of the exhibition, „The New Energy Policy Needs Us“, the exhibition stalls of ministries, professional associations and companies present extensive information on growing and cultivating renewable resources and their use. The rôle of biofuels in the new energy era is the main topic of the 9th International Congress „Fuels of the Future 2012“ on 23 and 24 January at Berlin’s ICC.
A first-ever exhibitor at this year’s event will be the German Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety (BMU). On a 200 square metre stall, the Ministry presents different aspects of bioenergy. These include, inter alia, the sustainable development of the biomass potential, harvesting methods, climate and landscape maintenance as well as the importance of bioenergy to regional economic cycles.
Energy plants will be highlighted at the stall of Fachagentur Nachwachsende Rohstoffe e. V. (FNR). Visitors can see a wide range of plants from which electricity, heat and fuel are produced. The central exhibit is the UFOP-backed racing car of musician and passionate race driver Smudo (The fantastic Four) in which he regularly starts at the VLN Langstreckenmeisterschaft (Veranstaltergemeinschaft Langstreckenpokal Nürburgring) and the ADAC 24-hour race at the North loop of the Nürburgring race course. This so-called Bioconcept Car is powered by innovative biofuel consisting of a mixture of a novel HVO fuel (hydrogenated rapeseed oil) and conventional rapeseed biodiesel.
The visitors’ particular attention will go to the stall of the project „Diesel regenerativ“, where the cutaway model of the Lufthansa airplane engine can be seen. This Diesel jet engine demonstrates that biofuels will also make ever deeper inroads in the aviation sector and biokerosene is establishing itself as an additional sales market for oilseed producers.
The international Congress „Fuels of the Future“, which takes place during the International Green Week on 23 & 24 January at the ICC, will discuss the question of how biofuels are produced and from where the biomass for the expected expansion of the market can come. Questions of sustainability, competitive land use and prospects will be in the focus of the discussions. The Congress, generally accepted as the flagship event of the industry, will be attended by over 500 participants from home and abroad.
