UFOP-"Biodiesel" Assessment Report 2018/19 published

The status report explains the relevant topics of the UFOP annual report on national and international biofuel policy, on biofuel accompanying research for UFOP-funded projects, and on biofuel statistics.

The report gives a comprehensive overview about the state of the art on national and European biofuel policy. The main topics are the implementation and consequences of the Renewable Energies Directive (2018/2001/EC) and in particular the national framework conditions resulting from the Climate Protection Act. The Federal Cabinet will decide today on this law and the package of measures.  These are critically questioned, as is the implementation of the Delegate Ordinance on the Regulation of Raw Materials with a high "iLUC Risk" against the background of the raw material composition of biodiesel consumed in Germany and the European Union (including HVO). The text links to earlier reports so that the historical development of certain regulations can also be traced.

Biofuel accompanying research is an important focus of the UFOP-Commission of Experts "Biofuels and Renewable Resources" in order to ensure that biofuels remain on the market. This concerns, for example, the ageing behaviour of biodiesel in hybrid vehicles and the required sensor technology. The focus is also on the development of future applications for biodiesel as a blending component in synthetic fuels.

The statistical annex provides information on the development of sales in Germany and the European Union as well as on the biofuel mandates in selected EU member states.

The topics on politics and development perspectives explained in the progress report will also be the subject of the lectures at the 17th International Congress for Renewable Mobility - "Fuels of the Future" on 20 and 21 January 2020 in Berlin.
